I started the “AKI Did You Know?” series at the end of 2022. It ran pretty solidly for about 3 months before I ran out of steam … after that, I would fire out the occasional tweet.
I decided to collect them all in one place, so here’s Volume 2, covering 19 January 2023 until 7 February 2023.
#AKIdidyouknow Your "Special" lasts for 20 seconds (30 seconds in World Tour and VPW64) but is shortened by 2 seconds every time you receive a strike or grapple, or miss a diving move. In World Tour, VPW64 and VPW2, it's also shortened by 2 seconds when your opponent taunts. pic.twitter.com/j6tE831DKU

#AKIdidyouknow In World Tour and VPW64 you could run away without penalty. From Revenge onwards, your Spirit drains by 8% for every 4 seconds that you're standing outside the ring (if opponent is inside). In this situation, taunts on the outside don't raise your Spirit either. pic.twitter.com/ZCNBAzI5gL

#AKIdidyouknow In VPW2, you probably know that if your opponent is in the mount position, you need to move the D-pad in the same direction as the attacker to perform a counter-strike. However, did you know that if they Taunt, you can also Taunt (analog stick) to knock them off? pic.twitter.com/0UanuSsyMK

#AKIdidyouknow Poison Mist appears in 4 of the AKI N64 games. The colour is random: 25% chance of green, 25% chance of red, 12.5% chance of each of Blue, White, Magenta or Black. #MutaByeBye pic.twitter.com/AfMphxGzGF

#AKIdidyouknow Once you've been irish whipped, a single tap of A button (at the correct time) has a chance of setting up a counter-attack. A single tap of B, L or R has a chance of grabbing the ropes. See video for the timing. The odds of success are based on your Spirit. pic.twitter.com/PcNvgOlf8m

#AKIdidyouknow From WM2K onwards, you become dizzy after being whipped into the guardrail (the lower your Current Health and Spirit, the longer you're dizzy). However, if there are less than 6 seconds left in the ref's count, you won't become dizzy – so fewer cheap count-outs. pic.twitter.com/sYstBPoUpO

#AKIdidyouknow Although not in No Mercy, the "test of strength" appears when 2 wrestlers grapple at the same time (and both have Current Health higher than 150 out of 255 and both wrestlers have a 'Test of Strength Move' in their moveset). Most button taps (A,B,L & R) wins. pic.twitter.com/VUHBwm8lsb

#AKIdidyouknow Super Specials (a feature found in VPW2) actually exist in Wrestlemania 2000. However, only CAWs have them, and they're all set to be a Bear Hug. Complete a full taunt when in "Special" to go into "Super Special" mode. Discovered by @RagDas01 a couple of months ago pic.twitter.com/sTzWseJrCH

#AKIdidyouknow The irish whip into the buckle, while slightly damaging (7 Main Health Damage), actually boosts the recipient's Spirit (by 3 points). Curiously, the strong irish whip to the buckle (where they stagger out) does NO damage (and there's no Spirit boost either). pic.twitter.com/krtv2WlerR

#AKIdidyouknow Since Revenge, when you catch an attacker's kick, you enter a Catch Throw minigame. Press A or B to perform 1 of your 2 different moves. However, the original attacker can also press A or B at this point – if they make the same choice, they'll perform an enzuigiri pic.twitter.com/zFtpyoWPiq

#AKIdidyouknow In 1998, following a series of beatdowns, Hayabusa unleashed his 'darkside', a violent weapon-wielding alter-ego . To unlock the Darkside Hayabusa mask in VPW2, play a match with Hayabusa and hit your opponent at least 5 times with a weapon. pic.twitter.com/LEUKRxWO2R

#AKIdidyouknow A failed attempt at a scoop slam or backdrop against a Super Heavyweight does 1 point of damage to your Back Health. On the plus side, you also get a 2 point boost to your Spirit (the key factor in increasing the odds of success when trying to slam a Super Heavy) pic.twitter.com/DVEzmyJ94t

#AKIdidyouknow After you've been grappled, rapid button tapping does NOT increase the chances of reversing the subsequent grapple move. Instead, a single button press (A,B,L or R) will trigger a reversal if it's going to happen. Defender Spirit is key factor to chances of success pic.twitter.com/qfjVaQ9E0G

#AKIdidyouknow In World Tour and VPW64, both Ultimo Dragon and Gedo's Camel Clutches do zero damage. They actually have damage stats for two pinning moves, which must have been intended for the Magistral Cradle and the Gedo Clutch (that AKI didn't have time to animate). pic.twitter.com/rx5mBPlwyc

#AKIdidyouknow In the mount position in VPW2, you can hit the same strike forever and they'll never tap-out. You need to perform strikes in 4 different directions (without interruption) – if head health is low, each strike from that point on has a 50% chance of getting a tap-out pic.twitter.com/HDsRmKqqnl

#AKIdidyouknow From Revenge onwards, the AI will only enter the ring to break up a pin or a submission if their partner has Current Main Health of less than 64 (out of 255). In theory, a Limb may hit zero health before then, leading to a tap-out without the AI bothering to enter. pic.twitter.com/XLuEeIn07f

#AKIdidyouknow There are 3 different Movement Speeds (Slow, Normal, Fast), but they only affect forwards, backwards and running movement – all wrestlers move laterally/sideways and grapple at the same speed, regardless of their Movement Speed. pic.twitter.com/iAo6XhFdqW

#AKIdidyouknow From WM2K onwards, if you attempt a Strong Grapple move against an opponent with very high health (192 or higher (out of 255)), there is 4x the usual chance of reversal. Against an opponent with high health (128 to 191), there is 2x the usual chance of reversal. pic.twitter.com/ge2aroZRXw

#AKIdidyouknow You hold a limb when it's been reduced below 15 Joint Health (starts at 50). In Revenge and earlier games, you would 'sell' the damage earlier in the match (when Joint Health was below 25). If more than 1 limb is below the threshold, you hold the most-damaged limb. pic.twitter.com/s0LWXgRHqZ

#AKIdidyouknow In WM2K and VPW2, when you perform a dash strike against an opponent slumped in the corner, there's only a 30% chance that they'll stumble out, allowing you to perform a follow-up attack. In all other AKI N64 games, it happens 100% of the time. pic.twitter.com/byshQJLH8v
